The Ethics Behind Breeding Goldendoodles

Image
Goldendoodles are cuddly, intelligent, affectionate, and all round awesome. However, after owning them for some time and being online in social media circles online dedicated to Goldendoodles and other Doodles in general, I have found that there is a lot of resentment towards them from social justice warriors, groomers, and anyone that may be involved in interacting with dogs in any way, shape, or form. Side note: Doodle is a name given to any crossbreed that is a result of X breed +  a poodle. So, Sheepadoodle = Old English Sheepdog + Poodle, Labradoodle =  Labrador Retriever + Poodle, Bernedoodle =  Bernese Mountain Dog + Poodle, etc.  After researching and listening to what other people have to say, I have found that the resentment and hatred towards these animals is driven largely by the fact that people believe Goldendoodles are not bred ethically. What is a Goldendoodle?

Image
A Goldendoodle is a crossbreed dog that bas been bred from a Golden Retriever and Poodle. I have two Goldendoodles. Their names are Memphis and Maraschino. Memphis was born on 8/6/2018 and was named Memphis because I flew to Tennessee to pick him up from his breeder, so I wanted to honor his country roots. Maraschino was born on 8/30/2019. He, however, does not have as cool a story about his name. He is not made up of Maraschino cherries, although the name Maraschino is a nod to his red coat, and was chosen as it begins with the same letter as Memphis, M.  Although not recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club), or CKC (Canadian Kennel Club), as an official breed, Goldendoodles are great, intelligent, and overall awesome dogs.  Here is a picture of my two boys.  Enjoy.
